🏋️♂️ An FCE is an effort to determine an injured workers’ physical abilities after the worker has achieved maximal medical improvement – or medical stability.
A Functional Capacity Evaluation is physical testing generally conducted over one or two days by a Physical Therapist to measure an injured worker’s abilities through various exercises. The evaluation includes activities such as standing, walking, and sitting. Based on the test results, the Physical Therapist provides specific lifting restrictions for frequent, occasional, and rare scenarios.
Additionally, the PT determines comfortable durations for sitting, squatting, handling objects, and using fingers for tasks like typing. The results of the testing are outlined in a comprehensive report.
👩⚕️ A doctor may review the FCE restrictions to assess their reasonableness and, if deemed appropriate, may adopt them as the injured worker’s permanent restrictions. These restrictions are used as part of the disability evaluation in an Idaho work injury case.
